Holistic Massage School Helps Fight Obesity with Classes on Holistic Nutrition

Healing Hands School of Holistic Health (HHSHH) recognizes that according to Trust for America’s Health’s annual report, obesity rates have doubled since 1980, (from 15 to 30 percent), while childhood obesity rates have more than tripled. Obesity puts these individuals at an increased risk of more than 30 serious diseases, negatively impacting their lives as well as our health care system. Herbal plants

The goal of HHSHH’s course ‘Holistic Nutrition” is to educate students about healthy nutrition so they can build a strong foundation for long term health and wellbeing. The course examines the basic nutrients in food and how food affects the mind/body connection. Class discussions include how food choices impact our health and how food affects our own energy. Through demonstration, preparation and sharing of delicious and healthy recipes HHSHH students learn to design their own unique nutrition program and become advocates for healthy eating. Below is a list of just a few of the super-foods students learn about and the benefits they offer as part of a healthy, holistic meal plan.

  • Acai juice – A glass or two can dramatically boost the amount of antioxidants in your blood. (Cit: Texas A&M University researchers)
  • Apples – They contain Quercetin, an antioxidant that may reduce your risk of lung cancer.
  • Asparagus – Just half a cup supplies 50% of your RDA for vitamin K which builds bones.
  • Avocados – Their healthy fat helps keep you satisfied and able to absorb other nutrients.
  • Baked potatoes – Each packs a mega-dose of blood-pressure lowering potassium.
  • Bananas – Loaded with good-for-you fiber and starch which helps you slim down.
  • Black beans – High in protein, fiber and flavonoids, black beans provide antioxidants that help your arteries remain relaxed and pliable.
  • Blackberries – Offer more antioxidants than strawberries, cranberries or blueberries.
  • Bran flakes – Heart protecting whole grains reduce inflammation and melt belly fat.
  • Brown rice – A rich source of magnesium needed to convert food to energy and build healthy bones.
