Comprehensive Massage Therapist Training Sets Graduates Apart

As a Holistic Massage School, Healing Hands School of Holistic Health (HHSHH) is certified by the Bureau of Private Post-Secondary Education (PPSE) of the State of California to teach all aspects of massage and holistic health.  To maintain this Certification, HHSHH is required to provide completion rates, placement rates, licensure exam passage rates, and salary/wage information for students completing each program the school offers.  In the case of HHSHH, two programs are offered; the 500-hour Massage Therapist Training Program and the 1,000-hour Holistic Health Practitioner Program.

To obtain the starting salary/wage information required for PPSE statistics, a survey is sent to each graduate’s new employer for completion after 30 days of employment. In addition to contact information and survey questions, an “Additional Comments” section allows for specific employer feedback.  These survey responses and feedback by Employers consistently confirms that HHSHH Graduates demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to facilitate positive change for Clients right from the start.   Below are just a few of the many positive comments received by new employers:

Great job opportunities aren’t the only reasons students choose HHSHH.  Another is the school’s many National Accreditations that makes all classes worthy of Continuing Educational Credits (CEUs) and transferrable to other accredited Programs.  It also allows HHSHH to accept Federal Student Aid, Vocational Rehab, Unemployment, WIA, or VA educational funds on behalf of the students who qualify.

When it comes to accommodating schedules, HHSHH is beyond compare.  Here, students have the option of attending classes during the day, evenings or on weekends.  They may also attend on a full-time or part-time basis and take classes individually or as part of a formal Program. HHSHH offers both a 500-hour Massage Therapy Program for fast State licensure, and a 1000-hour Holistic Health Practitioner Program that takes massage skills to a higher level. Flexible class schedules is why HHSHH is the go-to school for new and professional MT’s seeking CEUs for verification through NCBTMB.

The main reason students choose HHSHH is the variety of classes offered, and the unparalleled expertise of HH Instructors.  With over 80 Massage and related Holistic Health classes offered, HHSHH has the curriculum to assure each student’s ability to pursue their desired area of specialty.  These include the usual work environments such as Resorts, Day Spas and Massage Clinics, plus new and emerging arenas such as: Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Sports Teams, Doctors, Chiropractors, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Rehab Centers, Gyms, Wellness Centers, and corporate offices.

In 2015, the Department of Labor predicted an increase of 30,000 new MT jobs by 2023 with salaries ranging between $25 and $45 an hour to start.  That makes the profession of Massage Therapist a financially viable career that offers job security as well.  So, if your New Year’s resolutions include finding a satisfying career that can also pay your bills, … Create a Positive Career Change with HHSHH

Meaghan Walter Profile of a Healing Hands Healer

An Orange County native, Meaghan Walter resides in Mission Viejo, just a few minutes from the Massage Envy where she works as a Massage Therapist.  A holistic health advocate, Meaghan says she choose a career in  Body-work because she enjoys meeting new people and receives great personal satisfaction from facilitating positive change in her clients’ health.  “I learned how powerful massage could be when it helped me recover from physical and emotional trauma I experienced in high school.  I want to be able to facilitate that kind of healing for others”, said Meaghan.

Meaghan Walter

Meaghan’s desire to work in the Massage industry prompted her employment at Massage Envy – Mission Viejo North, where she accepted a position as Front Desk Associate in 2013.  Simultaneously, she enrolled in the 500-hour Massage Therapist Program at Healing Hands School of Holistic Health – Laguna Hills. Attending at Healing Hands School, enabled Meaghan to continue working full time while moving toward her desired vocation.

A conscientious worker with a “can-do” attitude, Meaghan’s personal initiative became apparent almost immediately after starting at Massage Envy. By month two of her employ, she was promoted to ‘Lead Front Desk Associate’ and by month six had earned the title of ‘Assistant Manager’.  Shortly, after completing the 500-hour Massage Therapist Program in August of 2014, Meaghan made her transition from Assistant Manager to Massage Therapist, and has been happy in her chosen profession ever since.

Meaghan’s body-work expertise includes: Circulatory (Swedish), Deep Tissue, Sports, and Hot Stone massage.  She is also knowledgeable of acupressure points and the Eastern massage modality, Shiatsu.  Meaghan’s demeanor at Massage Envy reflects a quiet confidence, warmth and sincerity that leaves a lasting impression.  Perhaps that’s why she has become one of the most requested therapists at her clinic.  Management attributes Meaghan’s success to ‘strong massage and inter-personal skills’ while clients attribute it to her ‘arsenal of massage techniques and her caring nature’.  Meaghan claims it’s her passion for body-work and says when you love what you do, results follow”

Looking back, Meaghan recalls feeling a strong connection to touch and a natural pull to the Healing Arts, even as a child.  Always wanting others to feel their best, Meaghan eagerly massaged friends and family at get-togethers and special occasions.  As a Girl-scout, Meaghan was recognized with the 2nd highest honor, the Silver Badge Award, for spear-heading a community drive to create hygiene kits to lift the spirits of disadvantaged, adolescent Foster children.  “I remember hand-sewing the draw-string bags and filling them with items like antiperspirant, tooth-paste and make-up. I even selected and included inspirational quotes, they definitely were an act of love”.

Although Meaghan’s original career path was in the field of Accounting, an unplanned pregnancy in 2011 inspired her to pursue something more flexible, immediate and financially viable. The opportunity arrived when she applied and qualified for Financial Aid to attend Healing Hands School of Holistic Health.  She says she chose Healing Hands because it’s Nationally Accredited, has a positive reputation among Massage Therapist employers, and offers day, evening and weekend classes.

When asked about her plans for the future, Meaghan said “To assure I give my clients the highest quality massage therapy, I will continue to add different massage modalities to my repertoire. I enjoy my course work at Healing Hands School, because they have such a wide variety of courses to choose from. Next on my wish-list are classes in ‘medicinal herbs’ and ‘advanced sports techniques’, as I’d like to move toward a specialty in Sports Medicine”.

Holistic Massage School Recognizes January as Cervical Health Awareness Month

“Despite the fact that we have screening tests and vaccines that can potentially eliminate Cervical Cancer, every year more cervical cancer monththan 12,000 women are diagnosed with the disease and more than 4,000 die in the United States alone.” said Paula Curtiss, Founding Director for Healing Hands School of Holistic Health (HHSHH).  “Fortunately, the Affordable Care Act now requires insurance plans to cover cervical cancer screening tests at no cost to women, making essential medical care more accessible.  As a school of Holistic Health, we encourage both male and female students to talk to the women in their lives (Mothers, Sisters, Girlfriends, etc.) about the importance of regular screening for early detection and treatment” she added.

The National Cervical Cancer Coalition (NCCC), dedicated to helping women with or at risk for Cervical Cancers, says access to proper medical care is only part of the solution.  Getting women to feel comfortable talking about sexual health with their health care provider is still their greatest challenge.  That’s why they recommend women choose a healthcare provider that is open-minded, straight-forward, non-judgmental, honest and a good listener; so he/she is someone to be trusted.  If one is uncomfortable with their Doctor for any reason, they should ask friends for other recommendations or visit MedlinePlus on-line.  MedlinePlus provides links to directories for healthcare professionals, services and facilities at

In order for a Doctor to answer questions and provide advice regarding one’s sexual health, he/she will need to ask some very personal questions about sexual history.  This history may include your sexual practices, use of birth-control, chance of pregnancy, and any symptoms you may be experiencing.  Having this on-going discussion with your Doctor will allow him/her to assess your risk for STIs/STDs and offer appropriate advice and treatment.

To help men and women start a conversation about sexual health with their health care providers, the NCCC has developed a guide which includes 10 questions sexually active persons should ask.  A summary of those questions is provided below:

  • Am I taking the right steps to protect myself from sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • How do I start a conversation with my partner about STIs?
  • I want my partner and I to be tested for STIs before we have sex. How do I bring up the topic and where should we go?
  • After hearing about my relationship history, should I be tested for STDs/STIs and if so, which ones?
  • How often should I be tested for STIs, and which STIs should I test for?
  • Which vaccines might I consider taking to protect myself from STIs? Which vaccines are recommended for me?
  • What are my birth control options and how can I bring up that topic with my partner?
  • My feelings about sex have changed, can we talk about possible causes?
  • What sexual health screenings are recommended for me at my age? (Prostate Cancer, Mammograms, STIs, etc.)
  • I’m not always comfortable with how my partner treats me, can we discuss that?
