Holistic Massage School Offers A Review Class for MBLEX Exam

“As of January 1st, 2015, California law requires Massage Therapists to obtain licensure after graduating from an accredited massage training program and before beginning work as a Massage Therapist”, said Harmony Curtiss, Branch Manager for the Laguna Hills Campus of Healing Hands School of Holistic Health (HH).  “That law also requires students to complete a minimum of 500 hours of study, up from 250, and pass the standardized MBLEX Exam. As expected, the new law has sent many Massage Therapists scrambling to find a qualified school to help them meet the new requirements.  We want to spread the word that HH can help”, she added.

Founded in 1992 with campus locations in Escondido and Laguna Hills, HH’s school has met the stringent criteria necessary to qualify as an Accredited Educational Provider by the NCBTMB.  That means, all courses offered through HH are transferable and worthy of Continuing Education Credits.  In addition, HH has been offering a Standardized Test Practice Review for years.  Initially designed to prepare students for National Certification, the review class has since been updated and expanded to ensure a passing grade on the current MBLEX Exam.

HH’s Standardized Test Practice Review class provides students with a comprehensive plan of study. This includes, a review of Anatomy and important anatomical terms, system functions, modality specific information and plenty of practice tests.  This review not only reinforces lessons learned, it helps students retain the information better, which boosts their self-confidence as well as their test scores.

According to Paula Curtiss, Director for HH, the Test Practice Review course has proven to be essential to helping students pass their state exam.  The 16-hour course may be part of HH Nationally Accredited Programs, or taken “a-la-carte” at either the Escondido or Laguna Hills campus.  The next class, offered at HH Laguna Hills Campus, begins on November 7th from 6-10pm and is now open for registration.

During the past 26 years, HH’s top-notch Instructors have prepared more than 6,600 students for successful careers as Massage Therapists and can do the same for you.  Offering two Programs and over 80 Massage and Holistic Health classes, HH students can train for a rewarding career in less than a year!  To learn more, please visit us on-line at www.HealingHandsSchool.com or call 949.305.2722 in Laguna Hills or (760) 746-9364 in Escondido.

“Today, many of the acute and chronic conditions we experience are stress-related,” said Paula Curtiss, Founding Director for HH.   “Both HH Student Clinics attract individuals who understand the benefits of massage but choose not to commit to a Massage Clinic membership.  These massage clients provide the invaluable opportunity for students to work on a variety of body types and physical conditions, and receive honest feedback.  All Student Clinic clients complete a brief survey that evaluates the student’s professional performance and their over-all massage experience.  Thanks to our knowledgeable and passionate Faculty, those client surveys are predominantly positive – making our Student Clinic a win/win for students and our community”, she added.

All Student Clinic massages are offered Mondays through Fridays, by HH students who are enrolled in the advanced, 1,000-hour Holistic Health Practitioner Program.  All students who work at the Clinic have clocked hundreds of hours of Massage training and are adept at Circulatory Massage techniques such as gliding (Effleurage), kneading (Petrissage), and cross-fiber (Fanning). Other may have experience with multiple modalities and advanced therapies such as Acupressure, Neuro-muscular or Trigger Point Therapies.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Massage Therapy is a billion dollar industry and still growing.  Its popularity is due to a growing body of evidence that reveals its many therapeutic benefits.  In addition to enhancing the cardiovascular and immune systems, Massage triggers your body’s natural antidepressant, Serotonin which reduces depressive symptoms and pain.  It also lowers stress hormones, increases mental clarity, and enhances one’s sense of well-being.  To learn more about the study of massage and its application in medicine and health, go online to: www.miami.edu/touch-research .

Holistic Massage School Opening Doors of Opportunity for Students of Massage and Holistic Health

The majority of students who attend Healing Hands School of Holistic Health are self-proclaimed health enthusiasts interested in a career in the Healing Arts.   For some this means enrolling in the school’s 500 hour Massage Therapist Training Program that focuses on foundational classes such as Anatomy, Body-mechanics, Circulatory and other Massage techniques that allow one to work at a Massage Clinic, Day Spa or Resort.  Other students, however, opt for the 1000 hour Holistic Health Practitioner Program that includes all core classes plus 500 additional hours from a long list of health related electives.  The wide-variety of electives offered at HHSHH allow students to pursue a specific area of interest within the Massage Therapy field.  The school’s strong reputation among employers ensures student placement.

Holistic Massage School Instructor, Denise Fultz, Authors Book on Holistic Help for the Dying

Denise FultzDenise Fultz is a Certified Massage Therapist, Holistic Health Practitioner and valued Staff Instructor for Healing Hands School of Holistic Health (HHSHH).  Possessing a National Certification in Homeopathy, Denise is also a specialist in Geriatric Massage, Massage for Cancer Care and Massage for the terminally ill. She has been working with dying patients for nearly 30 years and is still going strong!

The insights and knowledge Denise gained from her studies and experiences have inspired her new book, Naturally,…End of Life.  Designed as a much needed ‘How to’ guide for families and caregivers of terminally ill patients, the book provides a wealth of information on natural therapies and holistic remedies to support individuals going through the dying process.

“There are many changes and challenges patients go through when they are dying”, says Denise.  “My book will bring these changes and challenges to light, and provide families and caregivers with effective strategies they can use to make their loved one feel as comfortable as possible”, she added.

The target audience for Denise’s book will be family members and caregivers of terminally ill patients, the National Hospice Organization, and families and volunteers of individual hospices around the country. Naturally, End of Life offers concrete, creative, compassionate, and effective Holistic strategies to ease many of the common symptoms experienced by patients nearing the end of life. These include physical discomforts such as pain, muscle stiffness, constipation, and shortness of breath, as well as emotional symptoms such as stress, anxiety, frustration, depression, and fearful expectations of the dying process.

A compassionate and caring individual, Denise’s first 10 years with Hospice were dedicated to Patient Care, relieving the patient’s primary caregiver for 4 hour respites weekly.  Her intervention gave caregivers a break from the constant demands, allowing them time to attend to personal matters or simply enjoy a little ‘quiet’ time.  The next 18 years with Hospice, Denise served as a Massage and Energy Therapist for Hospice’s Integrative Therapies Program.  An enthusiastic holistic health advocate, Denise then developed and supervised the first Massage Intern Program for Hospice of the North Coast.

In addition to her many invaluable contributions to Hospice, Denise is a highly-respected Staff Instructor who teaches several important classes for HHSHH.  These include: Circulatory Massage, Anatomy for Body-workers, Geriatric Massage, Lymphatic Massage, Reflexology, Tui Na and Homeopathic First Aid. Recognized for her exceptional knowledge, compassion and sense of humor, Denise helps students understand how working with dying patients can be an extremely enriching and fulfilling experience.  In her book as in her classes, Denise shares a compassionate and uplifting message with Massage Therapists and Care-takers everywhere.  Rather than shy away from working with the dying, embrace the opportunity to lend support and comfort at a time when another human being may need it most.
