Originally from Los Gatos, California, Tiffany Smith enrolled at HH in 2016 to pursue the 1000-hour Holistic Health Practitioner Program.  Tiffany says it was her desire to address imbalance in the physical, emotional, and spiritual components of people’s lives that brought her to Healing Hands.  Just one year later, Tiffany is well on her way to realizing her dream.  In addition to a comprehensive study of Anatomy/Physiology, Holistic Nutrition, and Breath-work, Tiffany took hands-on classes in Swedish (Circulatory) massage, Deep Tissue Manipulation, Aromatherapies, Spa Techniques, Herbal Applications, Reflexology, Reiki (Energy-work), and Herbal Thai Massage, far exceeding the 500 hours required to qualify for State Certification.

Complementary to her role as a multi-modality Massage Therapist, Tiffany is also involved in promoting, coordinating and facilitating women’s Spiritual retreats for the sacred community named: ‘Walk in Beauty Sister Tribe’.   Drawing on years of experience as a Spiritual guide, Herbalist and Educator of the Sacred Ways of Native Americans, Tiffany’s thrilled to add therapeutic Massage and Energy-work to her growing list of service offerings.  Clients who have worked with Tiffany attest to her caring, attentive, and thorough approach to holistic healing.  Tiffany says she takes great professional pride in meeting her clients needs for relaxation and releasing them from physical and emotional pain and tension – though integrative therapies.

“To ‘Walk in Beauty’ means to walk in harmony with all living things, says Tiffany.  “It’s about being in that state of awareness where you feel connected to everything around you mind, body and spirit. Incorporating ‘Walk in Beauty’ principles into my massage practice I can help facilitate clients to achieve a higher level of consciousness through grace, surrender, unconditional love and a desire to find your own truth”, she added. Healing Hands School of Holistic Health Asks:

 Did you know…

The average human body has 60,000 miles of blood vessels, that’s enough to circumnavigate Earth two and a half times.

That human fingers are so sensitive, that if they were the size of the Earth, you could actually feel the difference between a house and a car. Source: sciencedaily.com

The human eye is so sensitive that if the Earth were flat, you could spot a candle flickering at night from up to 30 miles away.

Nerve impulses travel to and from the brain at speeds of up to 250 miles per hour, faster than a Formula 1 racecar.

When you blush, the lining of your stomach blushes too.

The human brain can read up to 1,000 words per minute.

Inside your belly button are thousands of bacteria that form an ecosystem the size of an entire rainforest.

When in love, the human brain releases the same cocktail of neurotransmitters and hormones that are released by amphetamines. This leads to increased heart rate, loss of appetite and sleep, and intense feelings of excitement.

Holistic Massage School Shares How Stress Affects the Body

“At Healing Hands School of Holistic Health (HH), every member of our faculty is a Certified Massage Therapist familiar with the physical, emotional and mental benefits of Therapeutic Massage”, said Paula Curtiss, Founding Director.  “We have all witnessed the negative impact stress has on our clients and have seen how their body’s resistance to stress caused problems and made them vulnerable to disease.  An important part of our job is to help clients understand how stress impacts their lives, and encourage them to use holistic practices, such as Massage, to counter its negative effects”, she added.

Anatomy for Bodyworkers is a 100-hour course and pre-requisite for HH’s Massage Therapist and Holistic Health Practitioner Programs. It greatly increases the student’s knowledge of anatomical terms and concepts. Instructors take them on a detailed exploration of individual Body Systems, the interaction between Systems, and how they respond to chronic stress.  Below is a list of a few of these Systems and what students learn about how stress leaves its mark:

Musculoskeletal System: When the body is under stress, our muscle tension automatically increases.  Chronic tension patterns may force the body to adapt, creating postural imbalances like tight, rounded shoulders, neck stiffness, and range-of-motion restrictions.

Cardiovascular System: Stress elevates blood pressure and can keep it there, putting chronic stress on veins and arteries.  Stress can also aggravate and even trigger diseases such as Coronary Heart Disease, Ischemic Cardiopathy, Angina and others.

Nervous System: Our Autonomic Nervous System includes a sympathetic nervous system or ‘fight or flight’ response, as well as our parasympathetic nervous system or, ‘relaxation response’. Stress often plays an important role in depression and a variety of mood disorders. While anxiety is a normal response to elevated stress, prolonged stress can lead to the development of extreme anxiety, causing chemical changes that induce panic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders or social anxiety disorders.

Endocrine system: Our endocrine system is responsible for manufacturing powerful hormones that help regulate many of our body’s functions and feelings.  When dealing with chronic stress, the Adrenal glands will initially increase the production of stress hormones which increases feelings of anxiety, causes weight gain, sleep disturbances, and digestive problems.  If stressors continue, the Adrenal glands go into a state of maladaptation where they slow down, causing fluid retention, fatigue, lower sex drive and hair loss. The third stage, Adrenal exhaustion, is associated with depression, joint pain, panic attacks, thyroid disorders, severe constipation and Fibromyalgia.

Integumentary System (Skin): Stress exacerbates several skin disorders like Atopic Dermatitis, Psoriasis, and Neuro-dermatitis, a skin disorder that causes severe itching.  In addition, stress is responsible for several forms of hair loss.

Immune System: Stress can make people more susceptible to catching common illnesses, such as colds and flus, and impairs the body’s inflammatory response.  Inflammatory conditions such as autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular issues and rheumatologic illnesses, are all negatively impacted by chronic stress.

An enjoyable, nurturing and proven stress-management activity, massage not only helps the body return to normal after trauma, it also helps speed healing after over-use, injury or accident. When incorporated into a regular holistic wellness plan, massage can facilitate postural re-alignment, improve clarity and emotional balance, and promote optimal physical health and wellness from the inside out!

Holistic Massage School is Calling All Healers!

“At Healing Hands School of Holistic Health (HH) our Spring Semester is right around the corner and enrollment activity is already blooming”, said Paula Curtiss, Founding Director.  “This Spring, we will be offering two “beginner” classes to introduce new students to the Healing Arts, so if you’ve been considering a career as a Massage Therapist, now is your time to take action!

The evening class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm – 10pm and begins on April 4th ending June 27th.  The day-time class will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 8 am – 2pm and runs from April 24th through June 1st.

Circulatory Class Instructors; Harmony Curtiss, Dan Martin, and Jeni Hartung, use lecture, group discussion, and supervised hands-on practice to teach students techniques such as gliding (Effleurage), kneading (Petrissage), and cross- fiber friction (Fanning). Special focus is given to the body’s anatomy, and proper body mechanics (positioning) used by professionals. Students will learn “draping” techniques to ensure their client’s privacy. By the end of this class students will be able to deliver a full-body Circulatory/Swedish massage that promotes relaxation, detoxifies the body, relieves pain and facilitates a multitude of health benefits for their clients.

HH has been serving residents from two regional campuses in Escondido and Laguna Hills, with a third location opening in San Diego on March 19th.  Offering more than 80 massage and holistic health classes, HH combines ancient and traditional massage modalities with leading-edge therapies to ensure their students receive a well-rounded education in the Holistic Healing Arts.  The vast selection of courses allow students to explore multiple massage modalities as well as natural, integrative therapies like nutrition, homeopathy, herbalism, therapeutic stretching, and more!
