Salmon: This meaty fish is full of Omega-3 fatty acids which protect your heart and inhibit muscle breakdown. Salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to benefit our health in a variety of ways. For gaining muscle mass, omega-3 fatty acids can boost metabolism and energy levels, both of which are crucial to any workout routine.

Lean Beef: Lean cuts like Sirloin or Round Steak have the perfect lean to fat ratio and contains Creatine which facilitates recycling of adenosine triphosphate (ADT), the energy currency of the cell.  Lean beef also offers essential nutrients including iron, zinc and vitamin B as well as high-quality protein.

It features high levels of amino acids that manipulate insulin to promote healthy muscle growth. Finally, lean beef is low in calories and unhealthy fats, so it won’t cause you to gain the wrong kind of weight.

Omega-3 Eggs: Fortified eggs act as the frame for new muscle.  Each egg yolk contains ½ gram of Leucine, an amino acid that triggers muscle growth. Chicken:  Like beef, Chicken is high in protein and low in fat. An ideal food for building, maintaining, and repairing muscle for athletes or those participating in a muscle or body-building program. The high-quality protein in chicken is also helpful in enhancing bone health and maintaining a healthy body weight.  It’s important to prepare your chicken in a healthy way, so be sure to remove the fatty skin and avoid deep frying. Consider grilling it or baking it in the oven.




Nuts: Almonds are an excellent source of protein (a handful boasts more protein than an egg) and provide you with the healthy fats that will keep you feeling full and satisfied. They’ve been shown to raise levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL, or “good” cholesterol), while lowering low-density lipoproteins (or “bad” cholesterol). Almonds are also packed with monounsaturated fats shown to reduce the risk of heart disease. Try raw or roasted almonds and avoid those cooked in heavy oil or salt.  Just a single ounce of Almonds contain 150-170 calories making them a healthy snack you can take anywhere.

Holistic Massage School Describes a Day in the Life of a Massage Therapist

During a day in the life of a Massage Therapist (MT), you’ll be meeting and greeting a variety of clients, discussing symptoms, life-style (exercise, type of work, nutrition, etc.), medical history and goals for treatment.  A good MT will strive to establish trust and invite their client to provide feedback so they are truly partners in the healing process.  As a MT, your job will include: locating painful and tense areas of the body, using kneading and different strokes and techniques to manipulate and ease taught muscles, trigger points, adhesions (scar tissue), muscle soreness and injuries. 

Another big component of the job is creating a safe space for healing and holding the intention to promote optimal health, regardless of your client’s current age or condition.   In addition to soothing muscles, a MT can be extremely effective in promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and facilitating emotional wellness. As clients become more confident in the MT’s ability to facilitate physical and emotional improvement through massage, they are open to additional guidance and tips for living a more holistically balanced life.  As a Holistic Health Practitioner, you can educate clients about effective holistic health practices such as: proper posture, stretching techniques, muscle strengthening, breath-work, meditation, holistic nutrition, herbal remedies and more! 

Physically, MT’s need to be healthy, strong and well-trained in body-mechanics to ensure you don’t injure yourself when working on multiple clients throughout the day.  MTs use hands, fingers, forearms and elbows to manipulate the muscles and soft tissues of their clients’ bodies. The best MT’s are adept in more than one style of massage, mastering a variety of different techniques to integrate into a customized massage for each client.  Most massage clinics, however, will require the Practitioner to perform at least 3 of the most requested massage modalities, such as Swedish (Circulatory), Deep-tissue, and Sports.

Walking Meditation

Ideal for individuals with high-energy, or those who feel restless or drowsy during seated meditation, Walking Meditation is most enjoyable when done outside in a park or natural setting.  With your arms relaxed and by your sides, focused your eyes about 6 feet in front of you.  Bring your attention to your feet and mentally note the sensations of each foot lifting, moving and then re-connecting back to the earth.  Practice this process for a minimum of 10-15 minutes daily. When you notice your mind drifting, take a deep breath, bring your attention back to your feet, and begin again.  Like Mantra Meditation, Walking Meditation serves to quiet the mind and offer multiple health benefits.  With practice, it can become your secret sanctuary on stressful days and one you’ll look forward to integrating into daily activities.
