Holistic Massage School Welcomes New Academic Advisor, Erick Valdez

“Born in San Francisco and currently residing in Escondido, California, Erick Valdez is the newest Staff member at Healing Hands School of Holistic Health (HH)”, said Paula Curtiss, Director for HH.  “A dedicated employee who wears multiple hats, Erick serves as a Student Advisor, Administrative & Faculty Support Aid, and Clinic Director, for HH’s Escondido Campus. Please join me in welcoming Eric to the HH family”, she added.

A graduate of HH’s 1000-hour Holistic Health Practitioner Program, Erick’s familiarity with the school’s Curriculum, Instructors and Program requirements make him a knowledgeable and effective advisor for HH students. Just as importantly, Erick exemplifies HH’s values of Empathy, Respect, Excellence, and a ‘Heart-centered Approach’ to education in the Holistic Healing Arts.

A natural Healer, Erick confides that his family and friends have been asking him for massage since the young age of five or six.  Over the years he discovered that in addition to facilitating physical change, Massage was useful in resolving interpersonal conflicts.  Through the application of massage and herbal remedies, Erick found he could help reduce clients’ feelings of stress and anger, making conflict resolution much more likely.

Inspired by his ability to facilitate a positive change in the emotional state of clients, Erick chose to pursue Massage as a profession in May of 2014.  He graduated just 1 year later with expertise that includes; Western Circulatory Massage and Spa Techniques as well as Eastern Modalities and Therapies like Tui-Na (Acupressure), Reflexology, Medicinal Herbs, Herbal Preparations, Breath-work and Calming techniques.

A self-proclaimed Philosopher and Seeker of Wisdom and Knowledge, Erick sought employment at HH because he “Loved the Community and the Energy”.  Possessing a great passion for the Holistic Healing Arts, he says the best part of his job is meeting prospective students and introducing them to what he considers to be an empowering and important career.

Holistic Massage School Asks Which Meditation Technique is Best for You? (Part- 3)

Visualization Meditation

Ideal for Visual-spatial learners (VSLs), (inventors, artists, musicians, healers, builders, creators, computer gurus, and visionaries), Visualization Meditations can be a powerful way to invoke qualities of the images being visualized, which can be positively transformative. VSLs are empathic and, often, very spiritually aware, even when very young. For these individuals, visualizations of images from nature such as earth, sky, oceans, mountains, running rivers etc. are soothing to the senses.  These types of visualizations also have a quality of purity that helps bring them into present moment awareness, which naturally quiets the mind’s tumultuous thoughts.

Holistic Massage School Shares Fun Facts About Our Beautiful Brains!

  • A 2011 study conducted by Harvard Medical School at Massachusetts General Hospital, gave scientific support to what Buddhists and Spiritualists have been said for ages: Meditation Makes You Healthier and Boosts Your Brain! The study showed significant increases in the size of various parts of the brain and amount of grey matter in Meditators!
  • It takes as little as 10 seconds for a human to lose consciousness after their brain is cut off from its blood supply.
  • The Olfactory (Smell) Bulb is part of the Limbic system of the brain which controls our emotions and the reason smells can trigger such strong memories. And, unlike memories triggered by sight or sound, olfactory memories can last much longer in our subconscious minds, making them valuable tools for our memory.
  • Our brains are more than 60% fat, make up 2% of your body’s weight, and use 20% of the body’s oxygen and glucose to keep itself functioning normally!
  • Human brains process images 60,000 times faster than we process text!
  • A 1986 study by University of Minnesota and 3M Corporation, showed images made ads more appealing and proved to be 43% more persuasive and effective than the use of text alone!

San Diego Massage School Announces Upcoming MyoFascial Meridians Course

Attention Sports and Massage Therapy enthusiasts!

Are you ready to move beyond the basics of Circulatory or Swedish massage?  Want to explore more effective ways to facilitate lasting change for clients? Interested in integrating proven assessment and treatment protocols into your Massage Therapy Practice?  If you answered YES to any of these questions, check out the MyoFascial Meridians for Pain Relief course being offered at Healing Hands School of Holistic Health – San Diego (HH) this Summer.

MyoFascial Meridians are imaginary ‘lines’ of bones, muscles and connective tissue that run throughout the entire body”, says J.R. Price, Certified Massage Therapist, Holistic Health Practitioner, and multi-modality Instructor for HH.  “In this course, students examine the lines and planes of strain, tension, and compensation found in this body-wide network. They will look beyond how muscles work individually and explore how they operate when working cross-functionally. They learn how therapy on a single muscle offers limited short-term benefits where-as restoring balance to the body’s Meridians can promote long-term healthy posture, flexibility and well-being in their clients”, he added.

A specialist in Myofascial Therapies, J.R.’s deep understanding of and respect for physiology and the body/mind connection make him the ideal instructor for this comprehensive, 70-hour course. Offered on Sundays, starting July 9th, from 10am to 5 pm, at HH’s San Diego Campus located at 9025 Balboa Avenue – suite #103, MyoFascial Meridians for Pain Relief is a ‘must have’ course for anyone pursuing Movement Therapies or the Holistic Healing Arts.
