Holistic Massage School Explains the Benefits of Circulatory Massage

Circulatory Massage is an excellent integrative therapy that offers numerous health benefits”, said Harmony Curtiss, Director for Healing Hands School of Holistic Health, Laguna Hills (Healing Hands). “Massage Therapists can provide a very therapeutic and nurturing experience.  Circulatory Massage helps enhance circulation and the functioning of all Body Systems while reducing pain and discomfort”, she added.

Harmony is a Certified Massage Therapist and Holistic Health Practitioner with years of experience as a multi-modality Massage Therapist and Staff Instructor.  She understands first-hand how therapeutic touch delivered with focused intention can provide substantial relief to patients of all ages including infants and the elderly.

In Circulatory Massage class, Healing Hands Instructors provide lecture, demonstration, and dozens of hours of hands-on practice.  In addition to learning about all the bones and muscles in the body, students learn to master body draping and a variety of massage strokes and techniques.  By the end of the course, students are empowered to deliver a full-body Circulatory Massage that addresses therapeutic concerns while promoting deep relaxation and well-being.

Circulatory Massage facilitates the release of neuro-chemicals that reduce stress and alleviate pain.  With regular Circulatory Massage, clients can enjoy a reduction in pain medications which often come with negative side-effects.  In addition to a long list of physical benefits, Circulatory Massage delivers many significant psycho-social benefits as well.  These may include but are not limited to, enhanced mood, an increase in energy and mental focus, balanced emotions and increased self-esteem.

Harmony shares the reality of this work with students, explaining how working with a variety of different clients can present challenges, but also offers many rewards. Although it requires a willingness to acknowledge and be sensitive to the emotional vulnerability of clients, it also can facilitate profound personal and professional growth for the Massage Therapist.

Massage Therapist Training Empowers Natural Healing of Chronic Pain and Inflammation

“Did you know, one of the primary benefits of Massage is its positive affect on inflammation? said Harmony Curtiss, Director for Healing Hands School of Holistic Health – Laguna Hills (Healing Hands).  “Our bodies either resist pain, which takes energy, or heals itself. When Massage Therapists apply therapeutic touch, they free up energy and stimulate blood-flow.  When directed toward the area of imbalance, inflammation is reduced and healing occurs”, she added.

As medical studies uncover mounting evidence, Massage’s curative impact on disease is no longer just anecdotal.  We now know that chronic and uncontrolled inflammation greatly contributes to the development of chronic illnesses.  These include cardiovascular disease, asthma and autoimmune deficiencies.

Fortunately, the emotional and physical benefits of massage can substantially impact Inflammation without the negative side-effects of pain medications.   Studies show that even just one hour of massage may decrease heart rate, create a drop in the body’s nerve impulses (relaxation response), reduce anxiety and provide relief from physical pain. Clients also experience a sense of emotional validation as their pain is acknowledged by the Practitioner.

Just as notable, therapeutic touch encourages positive neuro-chemical changes that affect the body and mind.  Most massage modalities cause a release of Oxytocin, Dopamine and Serotonin. These powerful hormones can reduce depressed feelings and enhance mood, making it possible for natural healing to occur.

What Massage Therapists must take into consideration when treating inflammation is that aggressive pressure techniques can exacerbate chronic pain conditions.  That’s why Students are taught multiple modalities and encouraged to remain present and focused on their client throughout the massage session.  By observing their client’s reactions to touch, and encouraging open communication, Students are more consistently able to apply the appropriate pressure for their client’s unique health condition.

With more than 80 Massage and Holistic Health courses to choose from, Healing Hands’ makes it possible for Students to explore and pursue an area of specialty.  A favorite among area Employers, no other school offers more opportunities for success as a Professional Massage Therapist than Healing Hands. Holistic Massage School Students Share – How Sound Makes Art!

“It’s nearing the end of the Winter Semester at Healing Hands School of Holistic Health, which means it’s time for students of our Anatomy for Bodyworkers class to take their finals and give their last, live team presentation” said Harmony Curtiss, Director for Healing Hands – Laguna Hills.  “Our Anatomy class presentations are often the high-light for student practitioners.  It gives them an opportunity to show-case newly acquired knowledge in a creative, fun and interactive way.  In addition to team building, these group presentations provide students with an excellent public speaking opportunity which further develops their self-confidence and professionalism” she added.

This semester’s Anatomy for Bodyworkers class at the Laguna Hills campus, was taught by Staff Instructors Denise Fultz and Shaunna Avila-McClure. Students were separated into five groups and tasked with creating a group presentation on each of the five human senses.

One of the students’ presentations on ‘Hearing’ incorporated all the basics on how the human ear receives, and processes sound, then introduced an especially interesting pictures and new concepts.  One such concept came from a You-Tube video that demonstrated how vibration and frequency organize matter into geometric forms.

The ‘Resonance Experiment’ as students named it, showed the surface of a speaker topped with fine grains of sand.  As music played through it, its sound resonance vibrates.  As a result, the areas of maximum and minimum displacement are made visible, creating exquisite geometric shapes.  Different patterns emerged depending on the frequency of the sound.

The photos on the left show just a few of the geometric shapes resulting from the vibration and resonance of sound.

You can learn everything you need to know about Anatomy and the body’s five senses at Healing Hands.
